(Click to have this section read out lout)
At the end of 1920s a significant event caused a sudden change to the Jazz Age. Life changed quickly and drastically for people in the United States. The United States faced the worst economic downturn in history.
Your task is to research this change in life, culture, and the economy. Then, you will assume the role of a historian and a reporter, and share how life could have changed for the family pictured below. You will have an opportunity to choose how you wish to report on this family - as a videographer, a newspaper reporter, a radio broadcaster, or an artist.

Your task has four components which will be explained below:
Step 1- Research

STEP 1: RESEARCH
You will begin by researching what caused the sudden change at the end of the 1920s.
What was the Stock Market Crash? What led up to the event, and how did it impact people and banks?
Your research will also include the changes that occurred in the 1930s.
How did the government respond to the Great Depression? Was there help that was given to people? What other event occurred that caused further hardship for people in the Great Plains?
What important cultural influences were a part of the 1930s? How did they impact people?
Use the links found on the Resources page to collect your information.
An organizer can be found below to help you with all the areas to include in your research.

STEP 2: PLAN
The next step is to begin a plan for your presentation. First, which role will you select to present the story of the family during the Great Depression? Choose one of the 4 different roles.
- Newspaper Reporter: You will create a printable newspaper using The Printing Press.
- Videographer: You will create a video using images and/or video segments using iMovie.
- Radio Broadcaster: You will create a radio broadcast using Audacity.
- Artist: You can propose a different method of presenting your projects. (Teacher approval required.)
Before you choose, take a look at the rubric and decide which project type is best for you. Then, fill out and submit the project plan guide to your teacher before continuing to step 3.
STEP 3: CREATE
Now you are ready to begin creating your project!
Your task is tell the story of the family pictured on the right. This picture captures the family in the early 1920s before the Stock Market Crash. How could life have changed for the family? What might change about the role of the mom and the dad? What about the kids? Bring the 1930s to life by creating a report which tells the history of the time period through this family.
